The John Mercer Langston Bar Association (“JMLBA”) is pleased to offer a scholarship for 2019. The JMLBA scholarship is offered to recognize and promote the academic achievement of two law students in Columbus that have:

  1. Demonstrated academic excellence and achievement in undergraduate, graduate and legal education;
  1. Shown involvement and leadership in community organizations that further the mission of the JMLBA;
  1. Aspires to have a career in the legal profession that furthers the mission of the JMLBA and the legacy of John Mercer Langston (including promoting excellence and diversity in the legal profession and demonstrating a commitment to community service); and
  1. Achieved personal milestones or overcome personal hardships that are worthy of recognition.


The Application Materials consist of:

1. Completed application;

2. Personal statement (maximum of 500 words);

3. Resume; and

4. An unofficial copy of your most recent law school transcript or computer-generated printout.


JMLBA will be awarding up to two $3,000 scholarships with the intent to award a scholarship to both a Moritz and Capital law student. The recipient and their guest are invited to attend the banquet as JMLBA’s guest of honor. Scholarship proceeds will be paid directly to the educational institution, and may be applied toward tuition, books, and required course-related expenses only.
