Clemency Project for Prisoners with Non-Violent Offenses

The Young Lawyers' Division (YLD) of the National Bar Association (NBA) is "Answering the Call to Justice" and joining the Clemency Project 2014 to help eligible prisoners submit the best possible clemency petitions to the Department of Justice, which announced a plan to shorten the prison sentences of thousands of citizens serving draconian sentences for non-violent offenses using President Obama’s clemency powers.  It is no secret that these sentences have a disparate impact on people of color and the families that need their support.   This is an unprecedented opportunity for attorneys around the country to organize and assist those serving unjust time behind bars.  If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please contact the YLD Clemency Project Co-Chairs: Toya Carmichael: or Andrew Kemp-Gerstel:

Ohio Supreme Court Tour Guides Needed

The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking diverse volunteer tour guides.  About 80% of visitors to the Supreme Court are students from districts throughout Ohio who reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of the population.  Ideally, we would like to be able to say the same for our volunteer corps.  Fortunately, the exhibits, graphic panels and videos in the education center present the stories and images of individuals from an array of communities and backgrounds.  We understand that JMLBA members’ work schedules may conflict with our tour hours.  In those cases, we hope you will share our program with family and friends who have flexible daytime schedules.  For more information, visit
